Gymnastics

Gymnastics is a sport that I really enjoy doing, it keeps you healthy and strengthens your muscles. Priesthorpe is a school which provides a gymnastic club on a Wednesday dinner time. Miss Graham, one of the PE teachers, runs this club - in the school gymnasium of course!

As a school team we recently took part in a head-to-head competition against a gymnastics team from Pudsey Grangefield. Of course, Priesthorpe won by a mile. (However we didn't boast!).

In gymnastics the important thing before starting the lessons is to warm-up your muscles with your coach/gymnast/PE teacher. All your muscles need to be properly stretched before you practice your gymnastics moves. If you don't stretch your muscles properly then you could strain one, or, worse still, badly tear a few.

In gymnastics there are usually four pieces of apparatus: the beam, the floor, the vault and the bar.

To be good at gymnastics you need to be:

  • Flexible

  • Able to use your stomach muscles

  • Tight

  • Able to listen to your coach/teacher

  • Adventurous

  • Sensible

  • Ready

  • Co-operative

  • Able to work as a team
These are the skills I use during my lessons every Wednesday, and look where it got me, in the school competition I was awarded:

Vault 2nd
Floor 1st
Overall 1st

I have been rewarded many times for my talent and skill in gymnastics and I hope I achieve more medals, certificates and trophies in the future.

Try gymnastics at Priesthorpe School!
