WELCOME FROM THE WEB SITE TEAM
Welcome to the school web site. We spent many weeks preparing and
creating it: collecting information; typing up text; making pages,
banners and buttons; taking pictures; editing, and, finally, putting
it all together.
The Web Site team began as an enormous group of pupils, who were
invited by Heads of Department, and Heads of Year, to help build
the pages for their subject or pastoral areas. Pupils who had shown
particular interest or ability came to a meeting just after Easter,
and many took up the opportunity to get involved.
The first tasks were to learn how to use the software programme
we needed, and to help make some of the decisions about the design
and style of pages, banners and buttons. Once the initial choices
were made, information from staff had to be gathered and put onto
the pages. Photos needed to be taken and images inserted into text.
A lot of this work was done during lunchtime sessions so that it
would be finished by the end of term. As the volume of work to be
done got smaller, so did the number of people required to work on
it.
During the holidays, a group had the chance to build a mini-Web
Site for the Excellence at Priesthorpe Year 6 and 7 Summer School.
This was a great opportunity to try out some of the School Web Site
ideas to see if they would work and how they might look. We divided
our time and efforts between creating the Summer School Site, and
completing and editing the pages we had already made for the Priesthorpe
Web Site.
This term an even smaller group of volunteers has continued to work
every lunchtime, and until 6.30 p.m. on Tuesday nights, to finish
off the remaining work. This has involved checking for any gaps
and filling in missing material and images; getting staff to check
their pages; building the navigation system and linking all the
pages. Now that we have finished, we are very pleased with, and
proud of, what we have achieved. All the ideas and time we have
contributed have been well worth it. We have learned a lot and enjoyed
ourselves while we've been doing it. It has been great to work on
a whole-school project as part of such a large team. We would like
to thank all the pupils and staff who have contributed to what is
on these pages now, and to encourage others to help expand it in
the future. We hope people will really enjoy looking at our site
and using it to find out more about Priesthorpe School, and what
goes on here.
Thank you for taking the time to read this welcome.
