TEXTILES

Year 7

Pupils in Year 7 have the opportunity to make either a puppet,a waist coat or safety accessory. Each project requires a design brief, some research, analysis and a plan. Work also needs to be evaluated.

The puppet project links with the Food Technology and product Design project to design a product for Novelties Ltd., a company that produces small gifts and souvenirs. One of its clients is Tropical World at Roundhay Park.

Project Brief: Design and make a puppet to be sold at the gift shop at
Tropical World

Here is some feedback from three of last year's Year 7 pupils:

  • "In Year 7 when we did Textiles we made waistcoats and clocks. We learnt how to dye fabrics, how to use the sewing machines and to sew free hand! Most of the children who did the projects said that they enjoyed them both.
  • "It was very exciting and interesting making a waistcoat, especially as the teacher liked our ideas!"
  • "I thought the clock project was challenging and enjoyable to make!"

The waistcoat project also links with the Food Technology and Product Design project to design a product based on Africa.
