DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY
Design and Technology at Priesthorpe comprises a number of specialist
subjects. These include Food Technology, Textiles and Product Design which
can be studied through special interests in Graphics or Resistant Materials.
All of these subjects require pupils to use imagination and creative skills
to tackle the projects and activities undertaken. It may be for this reason
that all the Technology subjects are popular with most pupils.
In Key Stage 3, pupils have two lessons of a Technology subject a week.
The subjects operate on a termly rotation so that, by the end of the year,
every pupil will have experienced all of them. This ensures that pupils
are provided a wide variety of ways in which to develop their skills.
The Technology rooms are situated in and around the field block, with
ready access to specialist equipment and ICT facilities.
Design and Technology often provides a welcome respite from the heavy
academic schedule, particularly at Key Stages 4 and 5, as the courses
are 60% coursework, 40% examination. Although the work requires concentration,
precision and skill, it is also a source of great enjoyment and satisfaction
for those who apply themselves with enthusiasm.
Design and Technology at Priesthorpe is taught as three discrete subjects
in which pupils learn a similar approach and common design skills. The
subjects are Food Technology, Product Design and Textiles Technology.
Mrs Mumby is Head of Design and Technology and Textiles, supported by
Mrs Larner.
Mr Westmancoat is Head of Product Design; Mr Schofield teaches in the
department, supported by Senior Technician Mr Devine.
Mrs Jennings is Head of Food Technology and Mrs Rayner teaches Food Technology,
supported by Mrs Dale.
