We are extremely delighted with the increase
in the number of young people from our school who have taken
up coach education opportunities in addition to the Sports Leadership
courses that we offer.
Last year we had a number of young people attend national governing
body qualifications held across the county.
In Year 12 Sandeep Gill completed her Level 1 hockey coaching
course and then went on to lead the popular Year 7 & 8 lunchtime
hockey club.
In Year 12 Alice Thackray successfully completed her 1st for
Sport Level 1 football coaching qualification and a football
refereeing course and has helped at tournaments and festivals
within our partnership.
Sam Haigh (Year 12) and Tanya Cooper (Year 10) have both attended
women's artistic gymnastic coaching courses and are currently
attending officiating courses and are now regular assistant
coaches at West Leeds Gym Club.
We were also pleased that Matthew Green, who left Priesthorpe
School in 2005 after completing his A-levels, went on to complete
his Level 2 Cricket Coaching certificate and has now become
a cricket coach delivering sessions within the Priesthorpe School
Sports Partnership and the St Mary's at Menston School Sports
Partnership.
We aim to continue to develop our coach education programme
for both our pupils and members of the community. If you are
interested in becoming a sports coach or would like information
on volunteering, coaching courses or workshops please do not
hesitate to contact me.
