Competitions

Priesthorpe SSP runs an extensive schools competition programme for primary and secondary schools which is co-ordinated by its Competition Manager, Gillian Brown. Eighteen sports have produced a National Schools Competition Framework for their sport, which means that the competitions are:

  • Inclusive - incorporating all ages, abilities, areas, preferences (i.e. team sports / individual sports)
  • Integrated - the events should link into a competition pathway where appropriate (e.g. local heats, area finals, city finals etc.)
  • Co-ordinated - to prevent duplication and clashes, need to link with other sports partners such as sports development, national governing bodes etc.

The aim is to maintain the 50% of young people participating in inter-school competition in 2008, and if possible to slightly increase this figure, especially in secondary schools.
