School Council Minutes - 5th December 2007

Business:-

1. Minutes from previous meeting

Notice board – Photos are waiting to be printed and put up – should be done by the end of the week

Assembly visits – Decided that these will no longer take place

Newsletter – Nick has made a basic template; Caitlin is going to collect information to be put on it. It is planned that we will send it out the first week after Christmas. It was suggested that we use the bulletin to post information about current activities as it is felt this would reach a wider audience.

2. Year Council Meetings

Year 7
Raised £1000 for Children In Need.
Some Year 7s feel that they are not allowed to go into the blue and green rooms after comments that were made by other students. Miss Nicholas to look into this and make people aware that they are for all years.

Year 8
Discussion about fundraising activities.

Year 9
Students have said that the blue and green room are dull and would like to improve them in some way. It has been decided that if a group of pupils would like to paint them then they can organise to do this using funding from the school council budget. They are to speak to the art department for help.

Year 10
Discussed fundraising activities. Year 10 have two separate charities from the school chosen charity. They will split any money raised.

Concerns over Youth Centre. They would like to know if the YC is going to get a TV like in the blue and green room. Nick to discuss this with Mrs Lane.

While discussing playground safety they have said that they would like more alternatives to football. Miss Nicholas will look into basketballs being purchased for use on the playground.

Year 11
It is felt among Year 11 that the consistency in the awarding of merits in the upper school is poor. Some students are awarded large amounts while others are not. Year 11 reps to take this to Mrs Ineson.

3. Youth Council Update

Callum and Sonia are both members of the Leeds Youth Council. They have both joined the Stay Safe group. They have only had initial meetings, so will feedback further information about this when they know more.

4. Food Council

Caitlin raised the matter of the Food Council that Mrs Graydon is running.
They want to know what foods pupils want and what do they want in the dining hall in the new school building.

5. Any Other Business

The Sixth Form reps informed the group of their meeting with Cllr Carter to discuss issues in Leeds. The group decided that they would like to invite Cllr Carter to meet with them so that he can hear a wide range of views from pupils of different ages. Nick will contact him to see if he would be interested.

Next Meeting -
