Sport Relief

During the week March 10th - 14th, many pupils got fully involved in events and activities to promote Sport Relief. Challenges ran throughout the week, such as: Alternative mile, Interform competitions, KS4 Sports Quiz, Sprint Challenge, Mountain Bike Challenge, Healthy Bun Challenge, and many more. The week ended with a non-uniform day when pupils were asked to wear ‘Trackie & Trainers’ or any sporting item.

The events raised over £1,200. Half of the money raised will go to Sport Relief charities and the rest to our partner school in South Africa.

Thanks to all pupils and staff who helped out or got involved in any way.

Gymnastics Sponsorship

Many thanks to the Cool Drinks Company who sponsored our gymnastics team and helped to buy new leotards for the girls. Many thanks also to Mr Dubois and Mrs Haigh for their invaluable contributions.

Priesthorpe’s Golden Girls

The school has produced some outstanding sporting talent over recent years, yet to produce three Internationals in the same year group is something special.

Alex Bell recently finished 9th in the English Schools cross-country finals, with over 300 people competing. Alex had to go through both City and County trials to even get to this stage, so to make the England team truly is an amazing achievement.

Grace Christopher won gold at the AAA national Under 17 indoor sprint hurdles competition at Birmingham on 23rd February. Her latest title is probably her most impressive yet, as a first year Under 17, she beat off the cream of the UK's athletes, all of whom were a year older. What makes it more impressive is that she ran the fastest time of the season across the whole of the UK, ranking her No. 1 in Britain.

Grace added this to last year’s Under 15 national titles at both the AAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships, along with the silver medal at the English Schools Championships.

Steph Skelton has also made the National Rounders team. Steph is a talented all-round racket sports player, and has also competed at a high level in squash. Steph is the only player in the team from the North of England.

Well done to all three girls!

Race For Life

2007 saw the launch of Priesthorpe WAG’s Race for Life training group to help women to prepare for Cancer Research UK’s 5km events. Last year’s membership was fantastic, with 69 women registered on the programme. We hope to repeat this success for 2008 and are running sessions at 7pm - 8pm on Monday and Thursday evenings at Priesthorpe. Training starts on Monday 7th April for 5 weeks (11 sessions) and is open to any females who want to get fit. You don’t have to be taking part in a Race for Life event to join us. The cost is £15 for the 5 week course. Contact Rachel Enevoldson to register or for more details.

Rotary Award for Priesthorpe Student

Charlotte Naylor in Year 13 has been presented with a ‘Service Above Self Award’ from the Rotary Club for her leadership qualities. Charlotte has been instrumental in the opening of a new Brownie pack and was praised for her maturity and achievement. Charlotte attended a ceremony at the Town Hall where she was presented with the award by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Brian Cleasby.

Congratulations Charlotte!
