| Holiday Requests |
It is very important that students at all stages of their
education do not have extended gaps, as these cannot be redressed
when they return to school.
Holidays during school time will only be authorised in extreme
circumstances.

If your child has a school
attendance of 90%:
- They have missed half a day
a week for a year.
- They have missed four whole

| Emergency Closure |
With the winter now upon us and the chance of bad weather,
please be aware of school procedure if we need to close the
school at short notice.
Announcements are made via Radios Leeds/Aire.
A notice is posted here on the website.
And, where possible, parents are informed by text. |

| Uniform |
| If you are buying new shoes for your child, please keep
in mind that black trainers are not acceptable
as school uniform. Students will not be allowed to wear them
at school. |

| Punctuality |
|
A number of students are regularly arriving late at school;
many of whom are dropped off by parents.
Registration is 8.45 am and pupils are
expected to be on site by 8.40 am.
To help with punctuality, we will be introducing a warning
bell at 8.42 am, to ensure students
are at registration on time.

| Rockwoods - Thank you for your co-operation |
We ask that parents collecting pupils on the Rockwood estate
are sensitive to the needs of residents. The police have been
particularly vigilant over pavement parking.
May I remind all parents that we recommend a one way
system around the estate? This works in an anti-clockwise
direction; as you pass the school entrance, it should be to
your right hand side. Most parents do observe this. |

| Priesthorpe Sixth Formers Achieve
Success |
| Forty two Priesthorpe students were successful in gaining
a university place in 2007 a success rate of over 95%.
Our former students are now enjoying the challenges of Higher
Education at various institutions. Our congratulations and
best wishes go with them as they begin degree level study
of a wide range of courses, including History, English Literature,
Law, Chemistry, Education and Medicine.
A number of our high-flying students gained more than one
grade A result at A2 in 2007, including Alice Thackray,
Chris Brown, Kelly Atack and Laura Stanhope. Some of these
students applied successfully to highly competitive courses;
for example Navdeep Sekhon, who achieved straight A grades,
is now studying Medicine at Leeds University. We are sure
they will all go on to do as well at university as they
did in our Sixth Form.
This year the university application process is well under
way, and we must make particular mention of Nick Higgins
and Robert Watts, who have both been invited for interviews
at St Johns College, Oxford. We wish both these students
the best of luck in their applications.
Also deserving of special congratulations is Charlotte Naylor,
who has been offered a fast-track post at KPMG, against
a competitive field of older and more experienced candidates.
We are certain that our current Year 13 students will do
both themselves and us proud in their exam results and progression
to Higher Education or employment this year.

| ICT Residential to Kingswood Activity
Centre in the Peak District |
| The purpose of the residential was to take part in an ICT
competition against several other schools. Only 14 pupils
were allowed to represent the school and these were chosen
for their aptitude, ICT skills and general enthusiasm. The
pupils had to choose an element from the periodic table, research
all about it and decide from its properties what characters
could be built to represent that element and create a story
board from this to then go ahead and build an animated film,
using specialist software to capture the scenes, add text
and to then use Imedia to add their own sound tracks.
Our chosen element was CALCIUM, as we are a healthy
eating school. The pupils decided on the idea of a 'Calcium
Gang' sneaking into pupils lunch boxes to show what
healthy products they should be eating and in doing so pushing
the junk food of chips, crisps, burgers and chocolate bars
out of the way. Pupils worked in pairs and made seven characters
out of plasticene and wire. They were:- 'Chubby Cheddar',
Youthful Yoghurt', 'Mighty Milk', 'Shady Slice', 'Cheesey
Straw', 'Frilly Philly' and 'Daring Dairylea'.
From each pair a 'best' film was chosen to represent the
school in the competition on Friday 23rd November at Royds
Hall school in Huddersfield. Pupils produced excellent research
and a fantastic film.
There were also points awarded for all the activities taken
and for the behaviour whilst on residential. Out of a total
of 140pts, we scored 132 - coming a close 2nd to the winners
who scored 133pts.
