PRIESTHORPE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
SEPTEMBER 2007

In this issue:

Message from Mr Hall

Welcome back to a new academic year at Priesthorpe School. It has been a good start, despite the best efforts of some of our suppliers to make life a little difficult (see below)!

Over the summer we received the bulk of our public examination results. Although not quite as good in some ways as 2006, they were, once again, a big improvement on 2 or 3 years ago—and on several measures we exceed the national average. Our headline figures are:

  • 95% pass rate at A level.
  • Over 50% 5A*- C, at GCSE for the second year running.
  • Over 98% 5A*- G at GCSE.
  • Over 80% level 5+ in Maths and Science SATs — English 69%.

There were some outstanding academic achievements: Chris Brown, Navdeep Sekhon and Alice Thackray all gained at least 3 A Level Grade As.

Eight pupils achieved at least 8 GCSE passes at A+, including Emily Corcoran, Michael Ford and Helen Stephens who passed all subjects at Grade A or Grade A*.

Of course, only a few youngsters are able to perform at this level — getting top grades is not easy, despite what you might see in the press. The majority of our pupils got the grades they were working for and they will be proud of their achievements — justifiably so.

The new arrangements for school day and uniform appear to be working well. If you have not yet managed to purchase an official school sweatshirt / cardigan, then please do so as soon as possible. Other tops are not acceptable.

We do have a very short registration slot in the morning. I ask that your child is on the premises by 8.40am, so that they are not late. I refer to school arrival times separately in this Newsletter.

Headteacher

Problems with our Suppliers
We were disappointed that we were let down by the company that supplies our School Planner. We had to provide temporary planners until the official one arrived; the company have told us that this was a problem with a ‘binder’ operation.

Likewise, I know that some parents have experienced difficulties with school uniform supplies. Apologies if you have been affected by this—we will try to work with the company to resolve outstanding issues.
