PRIESTHORPE SCHOOL - LETTER FROM THE HEADTEACHER
APRIL 2007

The School Day

Dear Parents,

Rather than wait for my next Newsletter, I need to inform you now of some changes we are proposing to the school day. We hope these changes will lead to better use of facilities, less congestion and crowding, and will help to support our drive to raise standards.

Next year will see the commencement of our 20-month major rebuilding programme. During this time we will be severely short of space on our campus. This adds urgently to the need to look at our lunchtime arrangements.

Briefly, the proposals are:

1. To standardise all lessons at 60 minutes,
(currently some lessons are only 55 minutes).

2. To introduce a 'split lunch', each of 30 minutes, for Key Stages 3 and 4.
The shorter queues and decreased congestion at lunchtime will provide a more civilized atmosphere and, hopefully, improve further the quality of our meal service. Of course those pupils who leave the premises at lunchtime will have the available time shortened and this is something that parents may wish to consider.

3. School will start at the same time, but will finish earlier,
(3.00pm or 3.05pm depending on registration arrangements).

4. Once every half-term school will close one hour earlier to facilitate a two-hour training session for staff. These dates will be set on the calendar.

Sixth Form Consortium arrangements will be unaltered by these proposals, although it is planned that Sixth Form students will also have their own dedicated time for canteen access.

If you wish to comment on the proposals, you are welcome to do so in writing. Those received by the 15th May will be reported to the Governing Body prior to their consideration of these proposals. If you wish to ask questions or seek further information, you might consider e-mailing me; for details, click here.

Yours sincerely,

Ken Hall
Headteacher
