Indoor Athletics - Dortmund 2007

Three Priesthorpe athletes, Alex Bell, Grace Christopher and Ryan Greaves, represented the city of Leeds and the UK in the European Cities Indoor Athletics Invitation competition in Dortmund on 3rd-5th March. Priesthorpe had more athletes in the squad than any other Leeds' school.

Hundreds of athletes from Poland, Sweden, Serbia, Hungary, the Czech Republic and the UK took part. Alex, Grace and Ryan all demonstrated their current form extremely well, with all their hard work paying off. A number of Gold and Silver medals and Personal Bests came to our three athletes.

Apart from the Athletic experience the cultural experience was equally outstanding. We received wonderful hospitality from our Dortmund hosts, with Leeds ‘bringing the house down’ at the Athletes presentation on Saturday evening with the whole squad dancing and singing on the presentation stage!

Perhaps the weekend experience was best summed up by one member of the Leeds squad when we were sitting in the stand next to the Serbian team, by saying to me, "The Serbian team next to us are from the country where terrible things went on when I was in Primary School ... but they look so happy now!" Such is the wisdom of a thirteen-year old. It was an experience that he, together with the rest of the team and Alex, Grace and Ryan will carry with them for a very long time.
