PRIESTHORPE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
FEBRUARY 2006

Dear Parents,

Could I remind you that Friday 17th February is a Training Day and that no pupils will be in school on that day. School reopens on Monday 27th February.

Many thanks to those parents who have already returned their ballot sheet for the election of parent governors. I urge you to cast your vote. It is important that you take part in the process of electing your representatives.

Year 10 parents are aware that they have a Parents' Evening on Wednesday 15th February. Your child has an appointment sheet.

Year 11 parents are due to meet subject staff on Tuesday 28th February. 'Records of Achievement' will be with you soon.

At the foot of this page is the text of a letter from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team which applies to parents who use the Rockwood area as a drop off point.

It is absolutely vital that the letter from the police is read and acted upon. They have been and will continue to be very active in the Rockwoods.

It is imperative that we park sensibly and do not block driveways. A child was hit recently, but thankfully unharmed, by a car picking up their children at the end of the day.

In order to avoid causing obstruction it is essential that we all use the voluntary 'one way' system as pictured opposite.

Yours sincerely,
Clive Pickles
Headteacher

POLITE NOTICE
PAVEMENT PARKING IS ILLEGAL

There have been reports of vehicles being parked either wholly or partly on the pavement on ROCKWOOD ROAD outside PRIESTHORPE School. If you are one of the drivers who park in such a way, you are not only causing a danger to the public and children but you are also committing an offence.

We would like to advise you of the offence being committed:-

Under section 137 of the Highways Act 1980 it is an offence if a person wilfully obstructs the highway.

Pavements are not constructed to take the weight of vehicles, so in addition to being prosecuted for obstruction, the local authority may also have a claim for the damage caused to the footpath.

Please be aware that by parking a vehicle in such a way that it causes an obstruction to passing traffic and public or access to property, you may be contravening the above Act. Any persons caught committing this offence will be prosecuted.

Please THINK before parking.
Due to the high volume of complaints regarding this issue, there will be heightened Police patrols in the area and tickets will be issued where it is felt appropriate.
