PE
End-of-Term Reports

Trampolining Club has been as popular as ever with a regular 20 pupils from Yr 7 & 8 staying until 4.30pm on Thursdays. Well done!

Netball
The Year 7 Netball team has done very well to start the season winning matches against Horsforth and St Mary's Menston. The squad of girls are training hard and have made massive improvements since September. They are Stephanie Higgins, Lauren Cooper, Sukhwinder Matharou, Macey Bratton, Brogan Sutcliffe, Lucy Warburton, Rachel Smith, Amy Smith, Rebecca Donaldson.

The Year 8 Netballers have had a pleasing first half of the season. The interest in Netball this term has meant that we have had both an A and B team. Both teams took part in the Leeds Schools U13 Netball Tournament. Special congratulations go to the A team who managed to win through to the semi-finals.

Between the two teams they have played six games, with both teams due to play their final match of 2005 against Intake this week. Both teams have been successful and have made good progress. We look forward to the rest of the season and even more success.

Well done to all the girls who have been involved.
Ms Nicholas

The Year 11 Netball team have again been working hard this year! With enthusiasm and determination they have faced every game head on. Despite not always winning, the progress in their team work has been very evident! Well done!
Miss Cronshaw

Year 10 Soccer
A move into the Airedale and Wharfedale League has brought a dramatic reduction in matches for the Year 10 lads. Four very easy league wins have probably made the side a little complacent. This led to a shock 3-2 defeat in the Leeds Schools Cup second round, with Wortley making and taking their chances effectively. On the day Priesthorpe had many chances to take the tie but were denied by an excellent keeper and the cross bar!

Step into Sport
Following the outstanding achievements of last year's Sports Volunteers the current Year 13 are well advanced in their club work along with Year 12 who are just beginning their club/school link pathways.

As I write, Liam Cannon at Farsley Celtic is aiming to achieve the Gold award (200 hours of voluntary service/ leading/ coaching in a sports club) with Gurpreet Singh (Ventnor Youth), Ben Tempest (Farsley Celtic and Farsley Cricket Club) and Jill Hague/Rachel Skinner at Pudsey Gateway aiming for their Silver Awards (100 hours).

The current Year 12 Sports Leadership group attended the Step Into Sports Conference at South Leeds Stadium to initiate their year of volunteering in local clubs. They are:

Josh Loynes - Pudsey and Bramley AC

Amy Parker, Rav Kalirai - Farsley Celtic Ladies FC

Jack Norfolk, Sam Haigh, Karamjit Bains, Stewart Ellis - Pudsey Gateway Disability Club

Ryan Lamb - Farsley Cricket Club Sandeep Gill - Leeds Hockey Club

Abygayle Kittsen - Wyke ARLFC

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OUR SPORTS LEADER VOLUNTEERS!
Priesthorpe currently has over 90 students on Sports Leadership Courses!
Mr Goldthorp

Consortium Soccer
For the first time in the history of the Sixth Form Consortium we are running a combined Priesthorpe, Grangefield and Crawshaw Under-19 soccer team. The side have been entered in the English Colleges Cup.

Following a bye in Round 1 the squad was selected after a series of hard-fought trials.
Priesthorpe's players have been Anthony Timms, Ben Tempest, Liam Burns, Josh Loynes & Harminder Singh.

The Round 2 affair against Bolton Sixth Form college was a very tough game played in adverse conditions. The Pudsey Consortium side went 1-0 up in the second half but let Bolton back in with an equalizer. Extra time proved to be a stalemate in rapidly diminishing light.

Penalties it was - in the dark! Lights from the tower block gave the only real illumination for both sets of players.

Three excellent penalties from Pudsey and three from Bolton (which were among the worst you could see!) saw the squad move into the third round and a home tie against Manchester Arts and Technology College at home. The winners are away to Stockport in Round 4.

GOOD LUCK BOYS!
Mr Goldthorp
Mr Barker

Year 7 Football
The boys have made a promising start; good numbers have been involved with both training and interschool competition. We played three festivals (8-A-side) comprising teams from Priesthorpe, Crawshaw and Grangefield. Overall Priesthorpe teams finished top of the Partnership. In addition the Year 7 team are still in the Leeds Cup (beating Carr Manor 8-2) and the Aire Wharf Cup.

Heartstart Programme

Priesthorpe is one of only two Leeds High Schools that have trained staff by the British Heart Foundation to deliver this programme. As part of their PSHCE course all Year 10 students will have the opportunity to be trained and certificated in the programme. In addition many other students (for example those in GCSE PE) will have the opportunity to undertake the course during the year. The programme covers training in CPR, Emergency Care and what to do to save lives.

This is a valuable programme and a chance for Priesthorpe students to gain a nationally recognised certificate.

Sports Hall and Indoor Athletics
A number of students have asked about Sports Hall and Indoor Athletics. In January we will have full details of a number of competitions, so watch out for announcements in the bulletin, assemblies and P E lessons.

Trailer Wanted!
We are looking for a trailer to transport mountain bikes from Yeadon Tarn to Otley Chevin and other venues for our groups. So if anyone has, or knows of anyone wanting to get rid of, a trailer (maybe large enough to take 10 or 12 mountain bikes), please contact Mr Robins or Mr Nick Hardaker at Yeadon Tarn on Leeds 2503616.

Cross-Country
A large number of Athletes have represented Priesthorpe this season in the Leeds Schools X Country league in the English Schools X Country Cup.
It is always difficult to single out individuals in such a team sport but the Year 7 & 8 Junior Girls team who qualified for the English Schools X Country Cup Final, plus leading Leeds Schools League individuals deserve special mention: Amy Sutcliffe, Harriet Jones, Abi Ramsden, Alex Bell, Abi Morgan, Natasha Barber, Ryan Greaves, David Derbyshire and Alice Thackray all should figure in the top ten in their age groups by the end of the season.

Well done to all team members:
Louise Berkson 8G, Alex Bell 8G, Abi Morgan 8S, Natasha Barber 8H, Ben Cook 8N, Zachary Greaves 8s, Sam Cahill 8H, Ryan Greaves 9N, Tom Hanson 9N, Steven Sommerville 9I, Ben Binns 9Si, Eden Cooper 9I, Andrew Bottomley 9N, David Derbyshire & Alice Thackray 6th Form, Laura McNamara 7Wa, Amy Sutcliffe 7Cn, Lydia Ratcliffe 7s, Harriet Jones 7Gi, Abigail Ramsden 7Gi, Katie Watts 7J, Lydia Preston 7Go, Olivia Corbin Phillip 7Wa, Harriet Child 7Cl, Lily Preston 7Go, Daniel Kemp 7Wa, Ben McKay 7S, James Knighton 7S, Steven Serotsky 7S, Gareth Needham 7Cn, Liam Freer 7S, Andrew Dixon 7Gi, Jack McMurrough 7We, Kurtis Cookson 7We.

English Schools Cross Country Cup National Final
The Junior Girls (Yrs 7/8) team, after having finished 3rd in the County rounds of the competition and second in the North East regional final in Derby, rounded off the National Final with a superb seventh place! Almost six hundred schools started the competition back in October from throughout England, so to say Priesthorpe is one of the top schools is no mean feat. Well done! Wear your new special sweatshirts with pride, girls.

Leeds Schools Trials and 4th League Race
Note the date in your diary and planner; 21st January at Leeds Grammar School. This will act as the trial for those athletes hoping to represent Leeds schools in the County Championships and trials. The county in turn will then pick teams to represent it in both the National Schools x-country championships and the London mini Marathon. It is important to note for these trials, unlike the other league races, you have to be pre entered i.e. have your name in the programme and wear a race number. See Mrs Gray if you wish to be entered. There are a large number of Priesthorpe athletes who are capable of gaining their Leeds Schools vest!!

Unfortunately the Year 10 Team decided not to take part in the League this year for a variety of personal reasons. Having been silver medallists in Yr 7 & Yr 8 and League winners last year as Year 9, it put a smile & puzzlement on the faces of the Leeds Grammar & Boston Spa Teams! Both these teams are now fighting it out for the league title well ahead of all comers.
Mrs Gray, Mr Robins
