I would like to start my introduction to this newsletter by thanking
staff for coping so well with the disruption caused by our heating
failure. On the coldest day of the year we lost all heat to
the old part of the school. The flue had collapsed and cut off
the electrical supply to the three boilers. The 'temporary' repairs
which we have had done will suffice until a permanent solution
is found. We protected the exam years as well as we could but
inevitably some students missed three days of education. My apologies
for this.
Despite these problems we have had an excellent autumn term and
this newsletter will give a flavour of the splendid work being
done both in and out of the classroom. We want students to enjoy
all that Priesthorpe has to offer. Staff give unstintingly of
their time and I know your sons and daughters appreciate the opportunities
they are given.
In the New Year I will be seeking to appoint two Parent Governors.
Mr Nash's term of office has come to an end but he has expressed
an interest in putting himself forward for a further four-year
period. Mrs Mawson has resigned owing to the pressure of work.
I would like to thank both of them for their contribution on behalf
of all Priesthorpe parents. I will circulate the whole parent
body in January re the process for election.
Finally, as you are aware, Mr Hardaker leaves us on Friday after
33 years and 1 term (100 terms!) at Priesthorpe. He will be missed,
but he does seem to have exciting plans for his 'retirement'.
He is going skiing in Canada, taking flying lessons and seeking
to improve on his marathon times. We wish him well.
As a consequence of Mr Hardaker's leaving, we have restructured
the Leadership team. Mrs Lane, a former Deputy Head at Parklands
and more recently the Quality Assurance Advisor with the LEA,
will be the new Deputy Head with effect from April 2006.
Mr Goldthorp has been appointed to the role of Key Stage 4 Co-ordinator/Assistant
Headteacher from January to April 2006.
