PRIESTHORPE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

OCTOBER 2005

Parents, be they prospective or current, will be delighted to hear that we had our best ever SATs performance in 2004-05. This is best illustrated in a comparative table:

You will note that in 2005 we were considerably above the Leeds average in all three subjects. In English and Science we were well above the National average whilst Maths was 1% below. Well done to all those students who are currently at the beginning of their GCSE courses in Year 10. We are definitely on an upward trend.

The GCSE results were not as pleasing. 41% of our students gained 5 A* to C, which was identical to the previous year. There were, however, some startlingly good performances from a number of students.

Name Achieved
Chris Brown 9 A*s and an A
Beth Heaton All A's with 5A*s
Lauren Nash All A's with 6A*
Alice Thackray All A's with 8.5 A*s

Also starring were:
Name 9.5 good passes with……
Hannah Brown 5A*s
Daniel Holah 5A*s
Jenny Lee 2A*s
Stephanie Lunn 2A*s
Scott O'Callaghan 2A*s
Laura Stanhope 5A*s

The average points score for the 195 students was extremely pleasing. At GCSE we are compared to similar schools and our points score of 321 was well above such schools.
There are two major reasons for that:

1. Our best students, some of whom are listed above did extraordinarily well
2. All our 195 students (except 2) completed their courses and most got 5 A*-G.
Our best results however were in the 6th form. In the 6th form we can compare how well students performed against their starting point (GCSE results); how much 'value' they added. Our students added value across the range of academic and vocational qualifications that we offer. The average grade for each exam entry at 'A' level was above a grade C and we had 55 students who are continuing to study at University.

Particular mention goes to the following students who gained excellent grades:

Name Achieved
Hannah Stark 3As, 2Bs & 1C
Amritraj Uppal 2As & 1B
Leanne Zanetti 2As & 1C
Thomas Hey 3Bs
Robin Gouldbourne 1A, 1B & 2Cs
Liana Cashman 1A, 2Bs
Sana Ansari 1A, 2Bs & 1C

We also had 25 students who gained Intermediate GNVQ qualifications and who now have access to advanced qualifications. Some of these students continue to study in our 6th form and others have gone on to study at local F E Colleges.
