8th July 2005
Dear Parents,

The majority of Year 10 are about to embark on their Work Experience, and practically all of Year 8 are going on residential next week. With that in mind I thought I would write giving details about the end of term arrangements.

We break up on Friday the 22nd July. It is absolutely essential that all students are in school that day so that we can confirm arrangements for the restart in September.

Year 10 works experience lasts for nine school days; they return on the 22nd July for a debriefing session and to collect their Records of Achievement. We must have full attendance on that day.

School will end on the 22nd at 2:15pm. We traditionally end a little early on that day in order to say farewell to staff who are leaving. Three staff are retiring in July - Mrs Gaunt, Mr Wilton and Mrs Procter. Dr Morrell and Mr Barnes are leaving to take up posts in other schools, and Miss Mortimer and Mrs Charles are also leaving. We wish them all well.

Thursday 1st September is a staff training day and no children are in school. School reopens for students on Friday 2nd September, details of which you will receive later.

This has been another highly successful year. Could I congratulate Year 9 students on their excellent SATs results. We still await English results, but the Science and Maths were impressive, with 75% of the students gaining a level 5 or better. I anticipate that Year 11 will also have done us proud when we get their results in late August. Yesterday Year 6 students who are joining us in September spent the day with us. We will once again be at capacity with 210 students joining us in Year 7.

Could I take this opportunity to remind parents that,

a) Mobile phones must not be brought to school. Should they be brought in, and go missing, it is the student's responsibility, not ours.

b) We expect students to bring their own dinner money to school, we cannot be expected to provide 'loans'.

c) Our uniform guidelines are very straightforward, and are detailed in the Student Planner. We ask that extremes in clothing fashion are avoided and that for girls black skirts should be of a plain style, respectable length and the shirt/blouse should be large enough to work in.

Could I end on a more positive note by congratulating the Graham family on the birth of their daughter Amelia. Both Miss Graham and Amelia are well and we look forward to Miss Graham's return in February.

My next letter will be on Friday 22nd July.

Yours sincerely,

Mr C Pickles
