HEADTEACHER'S EDITORIAL
I don't suppose there is a time when we are not busy, but this
spring has been exceptionally so. It is traditionally the time
when we look forward to the next academic year whilst being fully
aware that there is much to complete in this one. We have just
completed the Year 10 exam programme, Year 9 have done their SATs
and Year 11 have begun their revision programme prior to their
exams. We are looking forward to our School
Fayre and Plant Sale on Saturday between 1pm and 3pm. As you
will read later in this newsletter, we have already made a substantial
contribution to the Building Hope Appeal. I think that with your
help we can double what we have already raised.
We have been busy on the building front. The changing room extension
to the Sports Hall is complete, which will enable us to support
local sports teams each evening and at weekends. We must now have
one of the largest car parks in Leeds! This will be completed
over the Spring Bank Holiday, and is an improvement which enables
us to look more creatively at the rest of the site. The School
Council is meeting with companies to see how we can improve
our 'recreation' areas. We need more play areas and sheltered
quiet areas for those who don't want to dash about. Next year
we shall be investing some of our capital grants on our ICT infrastructure.
We will be creating new suites, upgrading old suites and investing
in whiteboard technology.
I hope you find a minute or two to read our newsletter; we like
to keep you informed of what's going on.
I will see some of you on Saturday - don't forget that if you
cannot make it on Saturday, plants will also be on sale on Sunday
from 10am to 12noon.

DRAMA
YEAR 11 GCSE WORK
One of the pieces of stimulus material for Year 11 GCSE studies
was an extract from "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley The
book describes a repressive future society and students were asked
to write a set of rules for that society. This chilling example is
by Scott O'Callaghan of 11Gi.

Drama Club Trip to the West Yorkshire Playhouse
On May 11th the Drama Club went to see a production of David Copperfield
at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, and we all thought it was really
good.
The performance was really excellent and we all enjoyed it. The
show is about David Copperfield, a boy in Victorian times. It told
about his life and is very exciting. The show showed the full potential
of the theatre. You should have seen us all jump during the thunderstorm!
There was lots of comedy and it must have been hard to put in, because
the whole storyline is pretty serious. The set was really good and
apparently it was the biggest stage they had ever used at the Playhouse.
We picked up loads of techniques for our drama sessions and we were
inspired by all the professional actors.
During the performance one of the actors collapsed on stage! None
of us knew that it wasn't meant to happen and we all laughed at
him. When one of the stage assistants came on stage some of us thought
it was funny, but some of us thought he was dead! Another assistant
and a man who looked like the boss went on and they all crowded
round him. After a while he got up and went off stage. I thought
he'd had a heart attack! The show was postponed for ten minutes,
but he came back on stage and got the biggest cheer of all at the
end.
On behalf of the Drama Club I would like to thank Ms Morley, Mr
Leggott and Ms Gibbens, for organising the trip and taking us. It
was a great trip and we appreciate it.

the agenda to further develop a health initiative !

raffles; 'Buy a Brick', 'Find the school' map, a Valentine's postal
service, Easter cards sale, Talent Show, etc, etc! Many thanks to
all involved for volunteering your time and for making many valuable
contributions!
