Newsletter: January 2005 Archive

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Happy New Year to you all.

Your child has brought home a data sheet, which I would like you to check for us. Each year we have to provide information to the authorities on which our funding is based. It is absolutely vital that we have accurate data on free school meals, ethnicity, postal codes etc. You may have changed address, your place of work or mobile phone. Please make any alterations to the sheet and return in the envelope provided to your child's Form Tutor. Could I stress that we do need a 100% return. Some sheets will have a section highlighted where we have missing information. Please ensure that these sections are completed.

This is a very short term because Easter is in March this year. We have a lot to do in a very short period of time. Could I inform you of the following:

Training Days

We have two more staff training days in this academic year. Please note that no students are in school on Friday 4th February and Monday 4th April.

Review Week

Each February we have a review week where every student in the school has a ten minute meeting with their tutor to set targets for the year. To enable that to happen we finish school at 2.15pm for a whole week, to enable the appointments to take place during the final period of the day.

The Review Week for 2005 is 14th February to 18th February. Your child will be given an appointment time by his/her tutor. On the other four days they will be coming home early.

Tsunami Appeal

We have decided that we would like to raise money for those in South East Asia who had their lives thrown into turmoil by the devastation on Boxing Day. Staff and students have already creatively raised money for the Tsunami Appeal. You may have already given your support but we ask that you join us in our fund raising efforts. There will be a no school uniform day on Friday 21st January when we will ask that your child donates £1 to the appeal. We are also organising a PTA quiz; a family event, to be held in school on Wednesday 16th February. This fun event will have a serious purpose. We would like to do our bit to rebuild the lives of those cruelly affected. A family ticket will cost £5. Further details will be circulated in early February but please put the date in your diary.

A small group of staff and students are organising other means of raising money. If you have any ideas please contact Miss Cowan in school.

Parent Governors

My thanks to Mrs Griffiths and Mr Thompson who are our new Parent Governors. We now have a full complement.

Parents Evenings

Our next three Parents' Evenings are:

Year 11: Wednesday 23rd February;
Post-16
: Tuesday 1st March;
Year 9: Tuesday 15th March.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. Please return the data sheet ASAP.

Yours sincerely,

Clive Pickles
