PRIESTHORPE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
NOVEMBER 1st 2004

Dear Parents,

What do we do if?

Just occasionally any school may have to close because of circumstances beyond its control. The closure may be caused by power failure, by boiler malfunction or by heavy snow (not that we have had any recently). If we have to send your child home, where will they go? Do they have their own key? Do they have your phone number?
We do, of course, keep students in school if they can't get home safely, but the vast majority usually can. Please discuss with your child what they should do in such an emergency.

The day following such an event, school will be open, unless you hear to the contrary.

  • We leave messages on both Radio Aire and Radio Leeds.

      BBC Radio Leeds Radio Aire

  • There will be a message on the Answerphone.

  • We always try to post a message here on the web site.
Important Dates

Year 7 Parents' Evening
is on Wednesday 3rd November. All of the subject teachers and group tutors will be present. We are expecting an excellent turnout for this important event. Car parking is a little tight, so please be patient as we park you.
Please enter the school building by the new Reception area at the top of the drive; this includes parents who have parked in the Rockwoods. If you do park in the Rockwoods, please don't block anybody's driveway, as we try not to inconvenience our neighbours.
You will then need to walk through the car park to the Reception area.

Friday 5th November is a Non Uniform Day. We will be asking for a contribution of 50p from pupils towards the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Our next Training Day for staff is Tuesday 4th January. This means that the new term will start for students on Wednesday 5th January.

Year 11 Mock Exams start on Monday 6th December. Students will be on study leave for two weeks.

Other Information

You will be receiving the Governors' Annual Report to Parents. Please take a minute or two to read this important document.

I have already written home about the new legislation regarding fireworks. It is obviously important that fireworks are not brought to school; they are offensive weapons and as with knives and imitation guns have no place in school.

I end this letter with a big thank you to parents as you have supported our drive to improve standards. Students must always be correctly dressed, must always arrive on time, and must always be correctly equipped. If we get the little things right, we can concentrate on giving a high quality education both in and out of the classroom.

Yours sincerely
Clive Pickles
Headteacher
