PRIESTHORPE SCHOOL
NEWSLETTER
OCTOBER 2004
This newsletter serves two purposes. It will reach our usual readers,
every parent of our 1210 students and also those who attend our Open
Evening on 13th October. I offer a warm welcome to those prospective
parents who will be viewing Priesthorpe in action on the 13th. I hope
you enjoy the experience and leave feeling that Priesthorpe is the school
of your choice for your child for September 2005.
I hope that all our parents, present and prospective, take a few minutes
to read this Newsletter. It will certainly give you a feel for life
at Priesthorpe. There is so much going on both inside and outside of
the classroom.
We have moved into our new building, the Drive Block, which offers
excellent facilities for those departments and teachers who have 'survived'
for years in temporary accommodation. The building work has not stopped
however. Our lack of proper car parking is due to the building of changing
rooms on to the Sports Hall. This building, sponsored by the FA, is
due for completion in January/February 2005. Our school is open for
Community use between 5pm and 10pm Monday to Friday and for much of
the weekend. This new facility will be a real bonus for both the school
and the wider community.
Our next venture, much of which will be done in the October half term,
will be to improve our disabled access. We welcomed our first wheelchair
student in Sept 2004 and we are installing a lift to the Field Block
and making a number of other changes to improve accessibility. We need
to improve our car parking. The huge area at the front of the school
will be gradually improved and will become a tarmaced surface.
The academic year 2004-2005 is well under way. Our new intake and our
new staff will already feel like 'old hands'. Priesthorpe continues
to go from strength to strength. The academic quality (based on Key
Stage 2 results) of our intake improves each year. We enjoyed our best
ever SATs results in 2004. We anticipate that this year will be equally
successful. For those who are visiting Priesthorpe for the first time
I'm sure you will be impressed. We are proud of our students and what
they achieve. We create an excellent working atmosphere. You will get
a flavour of that on the 13th. Don't forget if you want to see more
you are welcome to visit during a working day. Just get in touch and
we will arrange it.
