PRIESTHORPE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
OCTOBER 11th 2004

Dear Parents

You will be receiving a Newsletter later this week but I need to inform you about one or two pressing matters.

We have a training day on Wednesday 13th October. Staff will be preparing for our Open Evening so no pupils will be in school during the day. They may of course be joining us in the evening to welcome parents of year 6 pupils.

The PTA will be holding a social evening on Tuesday 19th October between 7 and 8pm. This will be an opportunity for year 7 parents to meet other new parents and senior staff but all parents are welcome to this evening. It's free so please join us.

You may have noticed that the laws regarding fireworks changed yesterday. Substantial fines will be imposed upon those who misuse fireworks. Our rules have not changed; fireworks are not allowed in school. Any pupil bringing fireworks to school will be excluded. I regard them as offensive weapons. We do not allow knives or imitation guns and I put fireworks in the same category. Please ensure that your son/daughter is aware of our rules.

We have had an excellent start to the new academic year and I hope parents have noticed the increased emphasis we have placed on the planners. We want to let you know if your child has got it wrong in any way. Please look at the codes at the front of the planner. Should your child be incorrectly dressed, have forgotten their equipment, arrived late or not done their homework it will be noted. I ask that you support us by looking at the planner regularly and signing it each week.

A small group of students appear to be arriving earlier and earlier to school - some as early as 7.00am. As essential cleaning work takes place in the early mornings and more importantly as there is no supervision in school I ask that students do not arrive until 8.00am at the earliest. We cannot take responsibility for anyone on site before this time.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I am sure you will enjoy reading our Newsletter later this week.

Yours sincerely
