TRIPS AND EVENTS

ART
On 17th November the Art Department took Year 11, 12 and 13 students to see some contemporary art and then to the British Museum for a much more historical take on the subject. Even though the weather was of a particularly wet, 'English' kind, we had a stroll through St. James' Park and a good look at Buckingham Palace where American flags and a marquee were set out in anticipation of President Bush's official state visit.

Visit to London with my Art Class
I woke up at 6 o'clock and it was raining. We arrived at Pudsey Station and travelled to Leeds and caught the train to London. On the train I did some sketches of King Arthur.
We walked to Kings Cross and went on the tube. We went to the Tate. We walked over the Millennium Bridge. It was really squeaky and the view was amazing. We saw Tower Bridge, St Paul's and The London Eye.
The Art work win the Tate was weird because there was a big light with mirrors on the ceiling and with your reflection you looked like you were walking on the ceiling.
We went to the British Museum and there was a lot of history about the Celtics and the Romans. We saw Buckingham Palace and in the grounds I saw beautiful horses pulling a black carriage.
We arrived home really late but we had a fantastic day.

BUSINESS STUDIES
Cadbury World
Year 10 Business students had a talk from the Marketing Manager and a tour looking at how the famous chocolate bars are made (not to mention the free chocolate we all received!) Despite the horrendous motorway traffic adding to the length of the day, everyone seemed to have a good time and were a credit to themselves and the school. A big thank you from the business tutors to all pupils.

Disneyland Paris Trip: 8-10 Feb
Yr 12 Business students (38 in total) are going to look at how the resort is marketed and the factors that meant Paris was chosen as the location.

My Trip to Cadbury Land
It took three hours to get to Birmingham. I went with Mrs Mortimer. We had a nice journey there because the driver was nice and put on Only Fools and Horses for us to watch on our long journey and then we listened to some music. When we arrived we listened to a talk about the factory and how it is run for the Business Studies course work. After the talk we had our packed lunch and afterwards we were allowed to visit the gift shop. Later we went round the factory and had free samples of chocolate on the way round. I really enjoyed the experience there and have learnt a lot from the trip. I also thought the people that worked there were very nice.

TECHNOLOGY
Clothes Show
On Tuesday 9th December, Mrs Bavage and Mr Westmancoat took a group of Year 9 and 10 pupils to the Clothes Show at the NEC in Birmingham. Each year this trip is an enjoyable day for all. Pupils have the opportunity to experience all aspects of the fashion and textiles industry and gain an insight into the Further Education courses available.

ENGLISH
Study Weekend
Long has the Lake District been associated with Literary figures; the weekend of the 14th-16th November a new generation of 'Great Minds' descended on the area.
Upon arrival at Butterslip Howe, the warm, welcoming atmosphere pleasantly surprised us. Our rooms having been allotted, we proceeded to dinner. The comedic chef kept us entertained while serving up generous portions of healthy food.
Following an enjoyable meal in good company, the group continued to bond through a number of intellectual challenges, including chess. After a late but good night's sleep, we awoke feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead.
On Saturday morning we woke to find ourselves in disbelief; it seemed untrue to be surrounded by such natural beauty. We prepared ourselves for a fulfilling breakfast, which was provided by the hostel.
Upon leaving the hostel after breakfast we made the short walk to Dove Cottage, the former dwelling of William Wordsworth and company. We enjoyed a full guided tour, covering the nine years they lived there. We then embarked upon a visit to the Wordsworth Museum, followed by refreshments at the local tearooms.
Feeling suitably refreshed we drove to Rydal Water and enjoyed a walk around the lake. Following a picnic lunch we drove back to the hostel to prepare for the night's comedic proceedings.
On Saturday evening we reflected on the day's activities and expressed our experiences by writing Haiku poems. These were influenced by the beautiful landscape of the Lake District that inspired us to express our appreciation of nature.
The journey home on Sunday was quiet as we were all mentally exhausted! We followed the picturesque route and appreciated the rolling hills. We arrived back at school in a reflective frame of mind. The skills we developed over the weekend relate not only to English Literature but also to life.

PE
Visit to Leeds Metropolitan University
Recently the A/S PE group visited LMU for a day's lectures and Sports Science experiments. Our pupils can gain so much from these visits. They use equipment and experience environments that are beyond the resources of school and also get a taste of Higher Education. Our aim is not only to give the group an improved teaching and learning environment but also to hopefully inspire more aspirations towards Higher Education. We have other visits planned for our GCSE groups later in the year and I hope they find the visits inspirational too.

OTHER NEWS

On Eid I got up at five o'clock. I cleaned all the rooms in the house and then went to have a bath. After my bath I went to iron everyone's clothes. My Mum was cooking in the kitchen and my Dad was helping her. My brothers were at my Grandma's house so we could clean the house up without them making a mess!
We all got dressed after cleaning and cooking. My Dad gave me £100, my Mum gave me £50 because I spent the other £50 on my big brother, I bought him a watch, a sovereign ring with diamonds in white gold and some Burberry aftershave. He bought me a phone, rings, necklaces and £100. He got my brothers £50 each and bought the Suburu Impreza remote controlled car. Then my friends and my auntie put Mendi on everyone's hands, even boys. Mendi is a henna pattern just for Eid. Eid is like Christmas for us.

Special Needs Co-ordinator

Since the start of Year 12 I have been attached to 7Si, thanks to the wonderful Mr Saimbhi!! Each morning we give out general notices, quizzes and fill the time capsule. Since being attached to this form it has given me a whole new experience in interacting with the younger students.
Happy Christmas to the whole of 7Si and a special thanks to Jordan and Matthew for getting me Robbie Paul's autograph as they know I am a Bull's fan! So being attached does have its benefits!
