WORLD
MENTAL HEALTH DAY
MONDAY 10TH OCTOBER 2006
In order to raise pupil awareness about mental health, various
information leaflets, website addresses etc. were made available
from the Open Learning Centre. In addition to this, and since
it is a well documented fact that negative labels and cruel words
can lead to poor mental health, pupils in Year10 and the Sixth
Form studying Health and Social Care designed compliment cards
with special messages.
Three students from the course, John Stott, Claire Howe and Hayley
Colbeck, worked with younger pupils during break and lunchtime
on World Mental Health Day, helping them to fill out and send
these cards to pupils or staff of their choice or create their
own cards with words of encouragement. Members of staff were also
encouraged to take part.
The compliment cards were put on
display until the end of the week and then delivered to the
intended person.
It was a successful, fun and enjoyable activity for both pupils
and staff involved and helped to raise peoples mood when
they received their special messages.
