PANJABI
Panjabi
is offered as an extracurricular language to all students in Years
7, 8 and 9. At the moment classes are running after school for Year
7 on Tuesdays and for Year 8 on Wednesdays.
We
offer Panjabi as a GCSE subject and we currently have a group in
each of Years 10 and 11.
This
year we also have a group in Year 12 for the first time. These pupils
have started an Advanced course.
PANJABI
GCSE
Panjabi
is taught according to the GCSE syllabus prescribed by A.Q.A. The
grade achieved is determined completely by examinations in speaking,
listening, reading and writing skills. Various topics are covered
in the syllabus, these include "Myself", "Family",
"My school", "Shopping" and "Holidays".
The
oral exam varies in length depending on the level of examination
taken:
- FOUNDATION
TIER
Candidates entered for examination at Foundation level will attend
one session in which they are expected to hold general conversation
on the topic areas listed above. The conversation will last between
eight and ten minutes
- HIGHER
TIER
Candidates entered for examination at Higher level will attend
one session in which they are expected to hold general conversation
on the topic areas listed above. The conversation will last between
ten and twelve minutes.
The
language is taught with the assistance of teacher-produced resources
and a series of textbooks written by many native authors. The subject
helps individuals to enhance their knowledge about their culture,
religion and background. Pupils are able to write to their relatives
abroad in countries such as India, and to communicate with them
on visits.
